Mitch Lyall hit a triple, scored a run and picked up the win on the mound for the Vincent Massey Vikings on Sunday as they beat Russell’s Major Pratt Trojans 5-1 in a five-inning Prairie West High School Baseball League game.
Elsewhere on Sunday, it was: Killarney Raiders 9, Crocus Plainsmen 7; and Virden Golden Bears 5, Neepawa Tigers 1. The other nine games were postponed due to poor field conditions caused by rain or snow and cold weather. Makeup dates have not been finalized.
Late Friday, it was: Hamiota Huskies 6, Birtle Falcons 5.
At Andrews Field, Lyall surrendered one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five to earn the victory for the Vikings (4-0). Marshal Burgess helped out offensively with a double, a single and scoring twice.
Robert Wishart gave up three runs in two innings for the Trojans (2-1-1) to take the loss. Chad Kilimnik singled twice in the game for Major Pratt and drove in its only run.
Raiders 9 Plainsmen 7
At Killarney Lane Ganske gave up three runs on six hits and struck out four in four innings of work to pick up the win for Killarney (1-4), while Brett Opperman and Morgan Magwood both went 3-for-4 at the dish with a double and two singles.
Tanner Bates was tagged with the loss for Crocus (1-2) after giving up three runs on six hits and striking out three in four innings. Blake Jamieson hit a triple for the Plainsmen.
Golden Bears 5 Tigers 1
At Neepawa, Marc Fleury held the Tigers to four hits and struck out a pair in four innings to pick up the win on the mound for Virden (3-0), which got three singles from Tanner Lewis. Cody Pasowisty was charged with the loss for the Tigers (1-2) after giving up a pair of hits and striking out two in four innings.
