Shayne MacGranachan competes in the Brandon Junior Super League Curling final on Sunday afternoon.
Brandon’s Shayne MacGranachan dominated the UCT Junior Super League all year and capped his season with his first-ever championship on Sunday.
MacGranachan and his curling team of Cody Chatham, Donovan Hickson and Jeffery Steen went 15-1 in the round robin and played a patient final at the Brandon Curling Club that resulted in a 6-2 win over Bill Banyard’s squad that was skipped by Nathan Malfait.
MacGranachan didn’t find the scoreboard until fourth end when he drew to the four-foot to take a 2-1 lead. He then stole one in the fifth and held a 4-2 lead going into the eighth. Malfait missed his last shot and gave up a steal of two to hand MacGranachan the title.
MacGranachan’s team, which beat Tyler Grumpelt 7-3 in the semifinals and Kylee Calvert 6-2 in the quarter-finals, took home team bags and $625.
Banyard’s squad, which also included Peter Brandt and Andrew Evans, beat Grant Jackson 5-2 in the semifinals and Quinn Robins 6-5 in the quarter-finals.
