Manitoba drops U16 opener

Saskatchewan rallied with five unanswered goals to beat Manitoba 6-3 Thursday in the opening game of the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup hockey tournament in Calgary.

Colt Conrad scored a goal and set up two others, including one by Brandonite James Shearer, to help Manitoba open a 3-1 second-period lead before Saskatchewan started its comeback midway through the game.

Goalie Tyson Verhelst of Brandon played part of the game for Manitoba, giving up six goals on 16 shots.

The Manitobans face Alberta this evening.
