In addition to Manitoba men’s champion Garry Hamm, a trio of local bowlers qualified to compete in team play in the Canadian 5-pin nationals through the provincial open championships at Thunderbird Bowl on the weekend.
Minnedosa’s Brandon Mansell qualified for nationals, set for May 28-31 in Calgary, as member of the Manitoba champion Central men’s team. Mansell paced the men’s team event with a 290.50 average and a high game of 423.
Meanwhile, James Boxshall of Neepawa, who bowled for Central’s mixed team, and Westman women’s team member Michelle Brown made it onto the provincial mixed team based on their averages. Brown posted an averaged of 282.75, while Boxshall averaged 262.50.
Hamm, of Brandon, paced the men’s singles category with a 273.6 average during qualifying, then won the stepladder final. He was named to the all-star team at provincials along with Mansell.
