The Brandon Houstons Marlins scored six runs, largely due to four Oak River Dodger errors, in the fourth inning and held on for a 9-7 Manitoba Senior Baseball League win over the host Dodgers on Sunday.
Luke Whelpton earned the win by allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out six in five innings of work.
Eric Zamrycut closed out the final four innings for Brandon by throwing four hitless innings and striking out three.
Ryan Boguski hit a solo home run and Patrick Vandoorne added a three-run blast for the Marlins (4-9), who moved within a game of Dodgers (5-11) for fourth place.
Alexis Hernandez was tagged with the loss after giving up eight runs — three earned — on seven hits in four innings of work.
Michael Baca, Colin Bates and John Lawrence all drove in two runs.
In Sunday’s other games, the Reston Rockets beat the Neepawa Farmers 8-4 in Game 1 of a double header before falling 4-1 in the rematch.
Reston 8 Neepawa 4
At Neepawa, Andrew Lochhead went 2-for-4, drove in a pair of runs and came around to score himself to lead Reston to a victory in the opening game.
Rory Tycoles had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for Reston (10-7).
Zane Sawyer earned the win for holding the league-leading Farmers (12-6) to three runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
He struck out five.
Tyler Reiner took the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in five innings.
Bryan White went 2-for-5 and scored twice for the Farmers while Jason Vinnell drove in two runs and came around to score once.
Neepawa 4 Reston 1
In the second game, Torey Scott doubled and drove in two runs while White went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI to help the Farmers get a measure of revenge on the Rockets.
Isaac Rodriguez allowed only one run on four hits in eight innings of work to pick up the win on the mound.
Brody Pinkerton was tagged with the loss for giving up four runs on nine hits in 41/3 innings.
Buddy Mayert had a pair of hits for Reston and scored on an RBI single by Sheldon Moore in the sixth inning.

Actually it was Aaron Tycoles who had a pair of hits and drove in 2 runs for the rockets in the first game in Neepaws
