Carberry’s Kelly Marnoch needed an extra end, but he came out on top at the Manitoba Curling Tour men’s championship in Beausejour on Sunday.
Marnoch and his team of William Kuran, Brandon Jorgensen and Chris Cameron scored one in the extra end to defeat former Brandonite William Lyburn 6-5 in the final. With the win, the Marnoch squad takes home a cheque for $1,600 and a berth in the Safeway Championship, which will be held in Winnipeg in January. The Lyburn team won $1,200.
Winnipeg’s Steen Sigurdson and Sean Grassie also earned berths to the Safeway Championship through the MCT rankings, pending final approval from CurlManitoba. They will be joined at the Safeway Championship by Brandon’s Rob Fowler and Scott Ramsay as well as former Brandonite Mike McEwen and defending Manitoba champion Jeff Stoughton.
In the women’s final, Joelle Brown beat fellow Winnipegger Michelle Montford 6-2. Brown secured a berth at the provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Virden in January with the win. Montford also secured a berth at provincials through the MCT rankings, pending final approval from CurlManitoba.
