Mathison athlete of the week

Shayna Mathison of the Hamiota Huskies varsity girls’ basketball team is the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association’s Tri-Star rural athlete of the week.

The 6-foot-2 post, a Grade 12 student who has committed to joining the Brandon University Bobcats women’s basketball team, was named the most valuable player at the provincial A championship in Sprague, leading Hamiota to the title with a 60-58 victory over the Glenboro Panthers. Mathison averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds per game for the Huskies and was an all-star in a tournament at Souris and at Hamiota’s own event.
