Mavericks finish first

Bryce Stephenson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs as the Minnedosa Mavericks locked up first place in the Santa Clara Baseball League regular season and a spot at provincials with an 11-1 win over the Plumas Pirates on Friday evening.

John Lawrence was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored once, while Andrew Richards threw a complete game in which he allowed three hits and struck out six for Minnedosa (13-2-0). Adam Kunzelman gave up three runs in four innings to take the loss for Plumas (5-9-1).

BORDER WEST:

Greg Hockin was 3-for-3 with an RBI at the plate and struck out 12 in his complete-game one-hitter performance on the mound as the Killarney Lakers beat the Baldur Regals 4-1 on Friday in the Border West league. Tim Groening was also 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Derrick Jones got the lone hit and scored Baldur’s run, while Chris Reykdal took the loss.

SOUTH WEST:

Chris Obach went 4-for-5 for the Hamiota Red Sox (15-1) as they closed out their South West Baseball League regular season with a 6-5 extra-inning victory over the host Deloraine Royals (10-6) on Friday night.

ANDREW AGENCIES:

Mike Tosh drove in three runs and earned the save on the mound for the Joe Beeverz Young Guns as they beat the Cubs 8-6 in their Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League game at Brandon Field on Friday. Jacob Jack got the win for the Young Guns. Keith Van Walleghem took the loss.
