The eight-time defending champion Minnedosa Mavericks have a chance to go for nine in a row in the Santa Clara Baseball League.
The Mavericks beat the Plumas Pirates 7-2 on Tuesday in Minnedosa, sweeping their best-of-five semifinal 3-0.
Mike Tarleton went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Mavericks, while Colton Spraggs was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kain Kramer led the Pirates, going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Minnedosa starter John Lawrence pitched three innings of scoreless, one-hit ball before giving way to Bryce Stephenson, who earned the win in relief, allowing two unearned runs in three innings. Brady Walker took the loss, surrendering six runs — four earned — in four innings.
