Cole McCaig’s Junior A hockey career is over, but one in the college ranks is about to begin.
The 21-year-old Brandonite has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey next season with the Marian University Sabres in Fond du Lac, Wisc.
The 5-foot-9 forward had two goals and two assists in 21 games with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Flin Flon Bombers before he was traded to Manitoba’s Waywayseecappo Wolverines in November. McCaig then recorded four goals and 15 points in 36 games with the Wolverines.
Marian University posted a 10-7-1 regular-season record in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association last year before falling in the quarter-finals to Lake Forrest.
