Logan McGonigal’s two-hit shutout has the Hamiota Red Sox on the verge of winning the SouthWest Baseball League title.
McGonigal struck out four batters and walked only one Tuesday as the Red Sox posted a 3-0 win over the host Boissevain Centennials to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five final.
Boissevain’s Tyler Wood matched McGonigal for most of the game, with the exception of a third-inning outburst when Hamiota scored all three of its runs. McGonigal pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and two walks, with four strikeouts. He also hit four batters.
Ryan Shaw went 3-for-4 and had the only Red Sox RBI. Chris Obach went 1-for-2, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch, scoring once.
Jay Graham and Junior Brake had the hits for the Centennials, who will try to extend the series tonight, when they visit the Red Sox at 6:30.
