McLennan leads way for Bobcats

Three Brandon University Bobcat teams travelled to Thunder Bay for Lakehead University’s homecoming weekend, but only one came away with a win on Friday.

Shanlee McLennan had 10 kills and Kellie Baker chipped in with three kills and three blocks as the women’s volleyball team beat the host Thunderwolves 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 17-25, 25-19).

The win improved Brandon to 5-3 in the pre-season.

The men’s basketball team wasn’t as successful on Friday, as it fell 81-56 to Lakehead. The Bobcats trailed 38-25 at the half, but struggled in the second half. Statistics were unavailable.

The BU women’s basketball team didn’t fare much better, as the Bobcats lost 85-58.

Ambrea McDonald-Okoro led Brandon with 14 points, all of which came on free throws, and had two rebounds. Aimee Johnston added 10 points and five rebounds for BU.

All three teams will have a rematch tonight.

Meanwhile, the BU men’s volleyball team beat the Saskatchewan Huskies 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 13-25, 17-25, 15-11) at a University of Winnipeg Wesmen tournament Friday. D.J. McCharles led Brandon with 19 kills and two blocks, while Randy Preval had nine kills and four blocks.
