McNamee will miss mixed playoffs

The fifth time won’t be the charm for Terry McNamee and his Manitoba foursome at the national mixed curling championship.

The Brandonite, making his fifth appearance at mixed nationals, fell out of playoff contention with a pair of losses at Montreal on Wednesday that left him with a 2-6 record. McNamee dropped a 7-5 decision to British Columbia’s Tom Buchy in the morning and fell 12-6 to New Brunswick’s James Grattan in the evening.

McNamee, who plays with Gimli’s Kyle and Kerri Einarson and Brandon’s Stacey Fordyce, will play the Northwest Territories and Quebec today.

Brandon’s Steve Irwin secured a playoff spot at the Dominion Curling Club Championship at Scarborough, Ont., on Wednesday.

Irwin and his Brandon Curling Club team of Justin Rabe, Travis Brooks and Cody Rabe, improved to 5-0 at the event with a 7-1 win over the Northwest Territories’ Paul Delorey and an 8-1 thumping of New Brunswick’s Marcel Robichaud.

Manitoba will wrap up the preliminary round with a game against Alberta’s Dan Sherrard (4-0) this afternoon.

The Dominion is a national championship geared toward club-level curlers.
