Midget Wheat Kings corral Cougars

Bradley Bowles had a goal and three assists as the Yellowhead Chiefs came from behind to beat the Parkland Rangers 5-3 Friday in Birtle.

Josh Martin and Taylor Sanheim both scored twice for the Chiefs (21-7-2), who maintained sole possession of first place in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League’s West Division. Derek Cross and Shawn Bowles had two assists apiece for the winners.

Nicolas Schneider, Tyler Derkach and Reigan Buchanan scored for the Rangers (4-24), who led 2-1 after the first period.

Also on Friday, the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Southwest Cougars 4-1.

In Souris, Brett Kitt had two goals and an assist as the Wheat Kings (20-5-2) remained two points behind the Chiefs.

Jordy Stallard and Carter McMurdo also scored for Brandon, while Justin Holder made 26 saves for the win.

Cameron Whyte replied for the Cougars (14-14-2).
