Zach Miner threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Southwest Sabres to a 23-6 victory over the Virden Golden Bears in Rural Manitoba Football League play on Friday.
Nathan Doull caught two passes for 81 yards and one touchdown and Nathan Greig hauled in an eight-yard pass for a score in the nine-man high school contest. Radney Logan led Southwest with nine carries for 61 yards and a touchdown, while Seth Walker had nine tackles.
Carrigan George ran for 21 yards for Virden and scored the team’s only touchdown. Logan Roach was 11-for-28 passing for 98 yards, while Trey Colbeck caught five passes for 42 yards. Alex Bajus made eight tackles.
In other Friday action, it was: Neepawa Tigers 38, Swan Valley Tigers 28; and Moosomin Generals 42, Parkwest Outlaws 32.
Neepawa 38 Swan Valley 28
Lynden Middleton scored three rushing touchdowns and one on a fumble recovery to lead Neepawa to a victory. Middleton ran for 145 yards and he broke one for a 100-yard touchdown.
Brenden Cowan was 6-for-14 in the air for 120 yards and scored one touchdown on the ground. Cowan connected with Jason Caines twice for a total of 75 yards. Connor Paterson led Neepawa defensively with 10 tackles.
Moosomin 42 Parkwest 32
Tommy McKay scored four touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Outlaws over the expansion Generals. McKay had nine rushes for 116 yards and scored on a 100-yard punt return. He also caught three touchdown passes from Reggie Waddell, who was 8-for-11 for 168 yards. Shawn Hunter led the team with 81 receiving yards, while Aaron Tanner made eight tackles.
