The Neelin Spartans got off to a quick start and never looked back as they beat the Daniel McIntyre Maroons 40-0 in their Winnipeg High School Football League contest on Thursday at Neelin.
Dylan Minshull rushed for 148 yards on 17 carries, including an 18-yard touchdown run, and caught two passes for 59 yards and one touchdown as the Spartans improved to 2-0 in the Andy Currie Division.
Bryce Keilback was 5-for-9 passing for 178 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed four times for 19 yards and a touchdown for the Spartans, who led 33-0 at the half.
Chance Miller scored on a 31-yard run for Neelin, which compiled 231 yards on the ground. He also caught a 30-yard pass for a score. Theo Farough added a 68-yard reception.
Osian Edwards picked off a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. Brandon Williams forced and recovered a fumble and Quinton Hunter led the team with six tackles. Brock Hiltner chipped in with four tackles and one interception.
Head coach Robert Cullen liked what he saw from his team, but knows it can still get better.
“We’re happy with the way they started,” he said. “We still have quite a bit of work to do. We had quite a few penalties today that were a little uncalled for, but we’ll take care of that next week.”
