Russell’s Jon Montgomery struggled in his return to the World Cup skeleton tour on Friday in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Montgomery, the 34-year-old defending Olympic men’s champion, placed 29th and did not qualify for the second run in a race won by world champion Martins Dukurs. Montgomery was promoted back to the World Cup tour on Monday after back-to-back fifth-place finishes on the Intercontinental Cup circuit, but his training was delayed when his sled didn’t arrive with him on his overnight flight.
Montgomery will get another crack at the track in Sunday’s second race. Meanwhile, Brandon’s Cassie Hawrysh has the first of two IC tour races today in Park City, Utah.
