Neepawa Natives forward Sam Briscoe is joining the Minot State Beavers.
The 21-year-old forward has committed to the North Dakota school’s hockey team after scoring 14 goals and notching 43 points in 60 Manitoba Junior Hockey League games with the Natives last season.
“Sam is a playmaking forward who will give us immediate offence to our lineup,” Beavers head coach Wade Regier stated in a team news release.
Briscoe joins Natives forward Robbie Moar, 21, in committing to Minot State, which competes in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
In other league news:
• The MJHL announced Thursday that pre-season action will open on Sept. 1.
The Virden Oil Capitals will open on the road in Portage against the Terriers on Sept. 2, while the Dauphin Kings will host the Swan Valley Stampeders the same night. Neepawa begins pre-season play on Sept. 4 in Portage, while the Waywayseecappo Wolverines open on the road against the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers on Sept. 6.
First pre-season home games are Sept. 7 for Neepawa (vs. Dauphin), Sept. 9 for Waywayseecappo (vs. Virden) and Sept. 11 for Virden (vs. Portage). The MJHL regular season begins on Sept. 19.
• Goaltender Connor Shaw of Dauphin has committed to joining the Dauphin Kings.
Shaw, who was listed by the Kings in 2012, posted a 4.02 goals-against average and .882 save percentage as a 17-year-old with the Parkland Rangers of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League last season.
