Bob Caldwell has received a huge promotion.
Last year, the Deloraine native was an assistant coach with the Southwest Cougars Midget AAA hockey team. On Thursday, he was named an assistant coach with the NCAA Division 1 Western Michigan Broncos.
“In securing Bob Caldwell as a member of our staff we have added one of the best technical and teaching minds in the game,” Broncos head coach Andy Murray, who grew up in Souris, said in a press release. “Bob has over 35 years of experience in teaching and coaching hockey."
Caldwell spent time in Russia, Finland, Poland and Romania studying hockey and helping people in those nations improve their coaching development models. He has also served as Hockey Manitoba’s master mentor and sat on Hockey Canada’s Athlete Development Committee and National Coach Mentorship Advisory Council.
