The Neepawa Tigers’ dream of winning two provincial high school titles on the same day came up just short Saturday.
Just hours after the school won a AA varsity hockey title, Neepawa’s junior varsity girls’ basketball team took the court in the provincial A/AA final in Winnipeg. The Tigers, however, left with silver medals around their neck after falling 60-50 to the Teulon Saints.
Lina Gordon, who was named a tournament all-star, led Neepawa with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Halle Hayhurst chipped in with 11 points and nine boards while Danielle Hanke, Neepawa’s player of the game, had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Souris Sabres finished fifth at the tournament after beating the Immanuel Christian Falcons 53-43 in the consolation final.
Jamie Sherritt led the Sabres with 19 points while Niamh McKenna added 12.
A/AA JV BOYS
The Glenboro Panthers defeated the Killarney Raiders 63-59 to win a bronze medal at the A/AA junior varsity boys’ basketball provincials in Somerset on Saturday. Game stats were not available.
Glenboro’s Riley Nicholson was named a tournament all-star.
