The Neepawa Tigers turned some heads at the University of Manitoba junior varsity girls high school basketball tournament in Winnipeg.
The Tigers, a AA-sized school, beat Teulon 37-20 in Saturday night’s championship final, led by defensive efforts from Lina Gordon (17 rebounds, three steals) and Halle Hayhurst (12 rebounds, five steals). Neepawa advanced to the final by beating Kildonan East — a AAAA school — 44-37 in the semifinals behind 25 points, six rebounds and four steals from Halle Hayhurst. Neepawa also beat AAA-sized Sanford 6-12 and AAAA-school Fort Richmond 43-39.
