Jeff Neufeld hit a grand slam homer as the Canadian Tire Cardinals dumped the Diamond Dawgs 9-2 in the first game of their Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League semifinal on Tuesday at Brandon Field.
Neufeld finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBIs, while Jeff Peel went 2-for-3, hitting a two-run triple and scoring two runs himself. Chris Kennedy added a couple of hits in four trips to the plate for the Cardinals.
Adam Hartman earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in six innings pitched, with six strikeouts. Losing pitcher Ian Barr gave up nine runs on six hits and three walks in four innings.
Mike McFadden went 1-for-2 at the plate and also drew a walk for the Diamond Dawgs.
The teams will meet again on Thursday at 6 p.m., at Brandon Field for Game 2 of the best-of-three series. The other Andrew Agencies semifinal resumes tonight at 6:30 at Brandon Field, with the Joe Beeverz Young Guns holding a 1-0 series lead on the Cubs.
