Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

New Senior A format

Hockey Manitoba has created a new Senior A provincial championship that will feature the winning team from each of the five leagues that play at that level.

The event, which will also feature a wildcard entry from one of the leagues that will rotate on an annual basis, will debut in Portage la Prairie on April 18. All other games will be played in Winnipeg.

Teams will be placed in pools of three and play a round robin schedule. The group winners will meet in the final on April 21 at the MTS Iceplex.

The Tiger Hills Hockey League will have the wildcard spot this year, meaning both the Neepawa Farmers and Souris Elks will compete in the event. The Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks will play the winner of the Grandview Comets and Foxwarren Falcons semifinal in the North Central Hockey League final. Grandview leads the best-of-five series 2-1.
