Brandon’s Dean Oakden delivered a one-two punch to his fellow competitors on the MGI Wealth Golf Tour on the weekend.
Oakden shot a 65 Saturday to win the Turtle Derby Classic at the Boissevain Golf Club. He followed that up by shooting a 73 Sunday to finish second at the Minnedosa Golf and Country Club’s men’s open.
At Boissevain, Oakden and Chris Unrau were tied at 33 heading into the back nine, but Oakden was two shots better on the back nine to win the 18-hole event that ran Saturday and Sunday.
Greg Facey and defending MGI Wealth Tour champion Matt Burman finished tied for third after shooting 68s.
At Minnedosa, Oakden gave up two strokes to Nolan Tutkaluk on the front nine and couldn’t make them up in the back nine as he settled for a second-place finish.
Tutkaluk shot 71 to win Sunday’s event by two strokes.
Jay Thiesen also shot 73, while Burman and Ken Newman finished one stroke back of him.
