OCN saves season

Killarney’s Daniel Stagg scored two of the OCN Blizzard’s three third-period goals on Thursday to keep their Manitoba Junior Hockey League season alive.

Darien Cardinal added a goal and an assist as the Blizzard evened their best-of-three play-in series at a game apiece with a 6-4 victory over the host Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Chris Kravchuk, David MacGregor and Tanoshi Mizushima also scored for the Blizzard, who got 33 saves from Killarney’s Brian Archibald.

J.J. Cruikshank replied with a pair of markers for the Wolverines, with Devon Schade and George Splichal also finding the back of the net. Brandonite Cole McCaig picked up a pair of helpers, while MacGregor’s Mitch Wiebe stopped 20 of the 26 shots he faced.

Game 3 will be played tonight in The Pas with the winner going on to face the Dauphin Kings in the Sher-Wood Division semifinals.

Meanwhile, in Winkler, Clay Tait had a goal and an assist to lead the Winnipeg Blues to a 3-2 win over the host Flyers, sweeping their play-in series in two games. Taeron Lewis and Joel Schreyer supplied the other goals for Winnipeg, who will take on the Selkirk Steelers in their Addison Division semifinal.

Travis Marit and Shawn Pachet replied for the Flyers.
