Kyler Beckett recorded a 43-save shutout as the Virden Oil Capitals blanked the Winkler Flyers 2-0 Friday in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
In Friday’s other games, it was: Portage Terriers 6, Swan Valley Stampeders 2; and Winnipeg Blues 10, OCN Blizzard 0.
At Winkler, Artsiom Kalashnikov scored a goal and set up Melita’s Lucas Oliver for another as the Oil Capitals (11-7-0) stretched their lead to five points in the Sher-Wood Division. Adam Vander Linden made 25 saves for the Flyers (4-11-2).
Terriers 6 Stampeders 2
At Portage la Prairie, Elkhorn’s Shawn Bowles was in on three of the Terriers’ five second-period goals, scoring two himself.
Dylan Butler dished out three assists for the Terriers (11-4-2), who moved into a tie with the idle Steinbach Pistons (12-2-0) for first place in the Addison Division.
Jagger Thomas of Boissevain and Max Prevoncher replied for the Stampeders (8-10-0).
Blues 10 Blizzard 0
At Winnipeg, Jordan McCallum and Mitch Hansen both scored twice to lead the Blues’ onslaught, while McCallum also had an assist. Byron Spriggs was called on to make only 17 saves to earn the shutout for the Blues (8-6-2).
Minnedosa’s Nolan Speiss made his debut for the Blizzard (8-8-1). Speiss had earlier been acquired from the Terriers for future considerations. The 18-year-old defenceman had one assist in five games with Portage.
