Kolby Woods sent the Virden Oil Capitals into the holiday break on a winning note Saturday night.
Woods scored the lone goal of an eight-player shootout to give the Oil Capitals a 4-3 victory over the Neepawa Natives in Manitoba Junior Hockey League action.
Elsewhere in the MJHL on Saturday night, it was: Dauphin Kings 3, OCN Blizzard 1; and Portage Terriers 5, Swan Valley Stampeders 2. The league is now idle for the holiday break, resuming play on Dec. 31.
<t-3>In Virden, Cory Haverstick, Kurt Johnas and Brandonite Cody Nelson scored goals <t-4>in regulation for the Oil Capitals (13-18-6),<t-3> who received a pair of assists from Sean Collins. Sam Briscoe, Clarke Rempel and Craig Fournier replied for the Natives
(9-21-5), while Brandonite Brayden Cuthbert chipped in with a pair of assists. Ty Edmunds made 20 saves in his final start for Virden before joining Team West at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Quebec this week. Corey Koop stopped 36 shots for Neepawa.
Kings 3 Blizzard 1
In The Pas, Jesse Sinatynski, Tyler Garrioch and Souris native Tanner Butler scored the goals for Dauphin (24-10-2), while Brian Archibald of Killarney made 22 saves. Kirk Chief scored the lone goal for league-leading OCN (27-10-3), while Justin McDonald stopped 35 shots.
The Kings were without Blake Kirkham, while the Blizzard were missing Wilson Dumais, who were both suspended for being involved in a multiple fight situation on Friday in Dauphin.
Terriers 5 Stampeders 2
In Swan River, Dylan Butler had two goals and one assist, while Matt Alexander, Dauphin native Justin Slobozian and Brandonite Taylor Wells had the other goals for Portage (19-11-1). Richard Olson replied with both of the goals for Swan Valley (22-10-4). Mitch Wiebe made 26 saves for the Terriers, while Landon Noel stopped 32 shots for the Stampeders.
