Oil Capitals set for first training camp

The new Virden Oil Capitals will be the last Manitoba Junior Hockey League team to open training camp when they hit the ice on Thursday at the new Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

The Oil Capitals, formerly the Winnipeg Saints, begin exhibition action by hosting the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

The Wolverines concluded their training camp with an intrasquad game on Sunday as Pilot Mound’s Brett Pinkerton opened the scoring and set up two other goals to lead Team Black to a 7-4 win over Team Red. The Wolverines open their pre-season schedule tonight on the road against the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers and host the Portage Terriers on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Neepawa Natives also wrapped up training camp on Sunday with Brandonite Brandon Switzer scoring twice in their intrasquad game to lead Team Blue to a 5-1 win over Team White. Neepawa opens the MJHL pre-season schedule tonight in Portage, with the Natives’ first home game on Saturday versus the Dauphin Kings at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Kings concluded their training camp last night with the club’s annual intrasquad game at Credit Union Place. The Kings open their pre-season slate by hosting the Swan Valley Stampeders on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
