The Western Hockey League’s Edmonton Oil Kings have signed head coach Derek Laxdal to a two-year contract extension.
Laxdal has been the Oil Kings’ head coach for the past three seasons, amassing a 132-64-7-13 record, making the WHL final the past two seasons and winning the league title in 2011-12.
"The bar has been set high the last three years with the talented players that have gone on to pro and college careers," Laxdal, a former Brandon Wheat Kings standout as a player, said in a release. "To be part of it was a great opportunity and we’re looking forward to the next group of kids coming through."
Laxdal had a year left on his existing contract, meaning the extension will keep him with the Oil Kings through the 2015-16 season.
