The Virden Oil Capitals have acquired the Manitoba Junior Hockey League rights to 17-year-old defenceman Morgan Magwood of Killarney and 18-year-old goaltender Ben Dennis.

Virden picked up Magwood from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines as the future considerations from last season’s deal that sent Dylan Gejdos to the Wolverines. Magwood had one goal, three points and 87 penalty minutes in 41 games for the Southwest Cougars in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League last season.

The Oil Caps nabbed Dennis from the Winnipeg Blues in exchange for future considerations. Dennis posted a solid 2.52 goals against average and .915 save percentage in 29 games last season with the Kenora Midget AAA Thistles.

Meanwhile, the Dauphin Kings have dealt the Junior A playing rights of 18-year-old defenceman Connor Vermeulen to the SJHL’s Battlefords North Stars for future considerations. The native of Medicine Hat, Alta., notched three points in 30 AJHL games last season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders and Drayton Valley Thunder.
