Today is the first day of competition for Brandon’s Isabela Onyshko at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 16-year-old Brandon Eagles gymnast will try to qualify for the all-around finals as well as individual event finals on the beam, uneven bars and floor. The individual qualifiers and team finals take place today and tomorrow. The all-around finals will take place on Wednesday, followed by and bars final on Thursday and the beam and floor finals on Friday.
Onyshko will have a familiar face on the sideline as well as Brandon Eagles coach Lorie Henderson has been named one of two Team Canada coaches for the women’s gymnastics team at the Games.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old DeLohnni Nicol-Samuel of Brandon will race in the 1,500-metre heats on Friday. The final will take place on Saturday. He’s representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Games.
