The Brandon Knights are 1-2 at the western Canadian Midget AAA baseball championship after losing twice on Friday in Chilliwack, B.C.
Mitch Lyall scored Brandon’s run in a 7-1 loss to the Chilliwack Cougars. Kyle Johnston had a hit in his only at-bat and pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Brad McLeod gave up four runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. Jay Pringle mopped up by striking out three batters in the final two innings without giving up a run.
A four-run fourth inning was the Knights’ highlight in a 7-4 loss to the Sherwood Park (Alta.) Dukes. Mason Hodgson went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and a run scored for Brandon. Lyall went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Marshal Burgess pitched all six innings for Brandon, allowing seven hits and four walks. Three of the Dukes’ runs were unearned.
The Knights face the Tri-City (B.C.) Indians today and the Spruce Grove (Alta.) White Sox on Sunday.
