A pair of Westmanites have been named to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s rookie all-star team.
Homegrown defenceman Wyatt Kalynuk of the Virden Oil Capitals and Elkhorn native Brett Orr of the Portage Terriers were both named to the team on Friday. Heading into last night’s games, Kalynuk had one goal, 11 points and two penalty minutes in 45 games with the Oil Capitals, while Orr had three goals, 19 points and 25 penalty minutes in 51 games.
Meanwhile, Souris native Tanner Butler, a defenceman with the Dauphin Kings, was named a second-team all-star. Butler had four goals, 30 points and 34 penalty minutes in 50 games going into last night’s contest. His teammate Brent Wold was named a first-team all-star forward. Wold had 18 goals and 41 points in 35 games.
