Virden pairs figure skaters Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers posted a personal-best finish of 168.88 points at the ISU world figure skating championships in Japan.
Lawrence and Swiegers scored 109.04 on their free skate late Wednesday night and placed 12th overall.
Lawrence and Swiegers’ performance at the worlds scored much better than their Olympics skates. They netted 103.01 points in their free program and 161.98 overall in their 14th-place finish in Sochi, Russia.
Meanwhile, fellow Canadians Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford won bronze at the worlds with a total of 210.84 points, while Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch placed fourth at 205.52.
Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy won the pairs event with 224.88 points.
