Brandonite Deanna Peyachew set a new personal best in completing the Boston Marathon in a time of three hours 29 minutes 31 seconds on Monday.

Peyachew, 36, cut 13 seconds off her previous best time, set last year in Regina’s Queen City Marathon. She said before the race her goal was to record a similar time to her only previous Boston Marathon performance of 3:34:34, set in 2012, but she ended up blowing away that mark by more than five minutes. Overall, she was 2,023rd in a group of more than 16,000 female runners. The Neelin High School track and field coach was 1,537th in her category, which included more than 7,800 women between 18 and 39 years old.

Peyachew’s husband James and sons Riley and Dylan took part in the five-kilometre race on Saturday.
