Austin Dobrescu scored a goal and set up another as the Crocus Plainsmen doubled the Virden Golden Bears 4-2 Tuesday at the Optimist Arena to open their AAAA provincial high school hockey qualifying series.
Layton Dornn, Luke Galatiuk and Taylor Maloney also scored for Crocus, while Brady Chyzyk and Austin Brereton replied for Virden.
The Golden Bears host Game 2 of the best-of-three series on Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. The winner of the series will face either the Vincent Massey Vikings or the Dauphin Clippers for a spot in provincials, slated for March 8-11 in Winnipeg.
