The Crocus Plainsmen started with two solid drives against the Grant Park Pirates in their Winnipeg High School Football League game on Thursday, but they struggled after that.
The Plainsmen (0-3) were held to a pair of Taylor Maloney field goals in their 51-6 loss to the Pirates (3-0) in the Kas Vidruk Division contest in Winnipeg. Maloney, who also caught five passes for 95 yards, made 22- and 12-yard field goal attempts.
Victor St. Pierre ran 10 times for 117 yards and Cody Robinson added 30 more on the ground for Crocus, while quarterback Ryan Baker went 5-for-20 in the air for 95 yards and two interceptions. Steven Siebrecht had eight tackles and a forced fumble, while Spencer Harries had seven tackles and a fumble recovery for the Plainsmen.
Crocus head coach Kevin Boyd admitted one of his team’s issues was being overmatched by the Pirates, who share first place in the division with the Vincent Massey Vikings (3-0).
“It was a little of that and a little bit of playing like crap,” he said. “We started off with two really solid drives. We had trouble stopping their little running back, Michael Ritchott. I don’t know. We just couldn’t get it together.”
