The Crocus Plainsmen are movin’ on up.
On Friday the Winnipeg High School Football League promoted the Plainsmen to its top category, the John Potter (AAA) Division, where they will join their Brandon rivals, the Vincent Massey Vikings.
Teams are promoted or relegated based on the players they expect to return next season as well as a coaches’ poll, and Plainsmen head coach Kevin Boyd said he was flattered to be ranked sixth in the league and move up a division.
“It’ll be fun,” he said. “It’ll be a good challenge.”
The Plainsmen went 4-3 in the Kas Vidruk (AA) Division last season and lost their quarter-final game. The Vikings posted a 1-6 record in the Potter Division.
Meanwhile, the Neelin Spartans, Brandon’s third entry in the WHSFL, has been dropped from the Vidruk to the Andy Currie (A) Division for the upcoming season after going 4-3 in 2013 and falling in the quarter-finals.
