Stephanie Hunter helped the Crocus Plainsmen open the Brandon High School Basketball League season on a winning note Monday.
Hunter had 12 points, while Stacey Shearer scored 11 to lead the Plainsmen to a 46-43 victory over the host Vincent Massey Vikings in the varsity girls season opener last night.
Jordi Malowski added six points for the Plainsmen, who held a slim 22-20 halftime lead.
Tara VanCauwenberghe replied with a game-high 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Vikings, while Taylor Halliday had 13 points and Megan Asham added nine.
Meanwhile, in last night’s varsity boys season opener, the host Vikings edged the Plainsmen 63-59 behind a 27-point performance from Jeremy Lucio and 15 from Tyler Campbell.
Jake Cullen replied with 19 points for the Plainsmen, while Taylor Maloney added nine points.
