Carter Proft will join former Brandon Wheat Kings teammate Jens Meilleur playing professional hockey in Germany this fall.

Proft, a 20-year-old Spokane Chiefs left-winger who was acquired from the Wheat Kings during the 2011-12 season, has decided to forgo his overage season in the WHL to sign his first pro contract with the Kassel Huskies of Germany’s 2nd Division Bundesliga.

Meilleur, a 21-year-old right-winger from Elie who recently completed his four-year Wheat Kings career, signed with Kassel last week. Meilleur will be one of 20 current and former Brandon players who will work the Wheat Kings’ annual hockey school next week before he heads overseas.

Proft, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Spruce Grove, Alta., scored 25 goals and notched 44 points while racking up 398 penalty minutes in 196 career WHL games with Brandon and Spokane. He was originally a fifth-round pick by the Wheat Kings in the 2009 bantam draft.
