Mathew Purvis scored one Virden goal and set up the other to lead the Golden Bears to a 2-1 victory over the Vincent Massey Vikings Friday in the Westman High School Hockey League.

In other games on the last day of action before the WHSHL Christmas break, it was: Neepawa Tigers 6, Dauphin Clippers 3; Glenboro/ Carberry/Baldur Wildcats 5, Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders 4; Major Pratt Trojans 8, Melita/Waskada Devils 6; Deloraine/Hartney Colts 3, Boissevain Broncos 1; and Rivers/Elton Rage 7, Hamiota Huskies 3.
At Virden, Zachary Roach rounded out the scoring for the Golden Bears (3-7-0), while Bradley Schoonbaert replied for the Vikings (4-4-0).
Logan Roach won the goaltending duel against Vincent Massey’s Reid Stallard.
Tigers 6, Clippers 3
In Dauphin, the Tigers ran their league-leading record to 11-0, thanks in part to Kyle McDonald’s hat trick. Bryson Kaye added two goals for the winners, while Riley Kolesar chipped in with the other Neepawa goal.
Kyler Allard scored twice for the Clippers (8-2-1), who opened the day in second place but slipped into a tie for fourth. Mike Kostyshyn also scored for Dauphin.
Wildcats 5 Raiders 4
In Carberry, Adam Wright’s second goal of the game, with 4:30 remaining in the third period, proved to the game-winner for the Wildcats (7-4-1). Jordan Robertson, Andrew Johnston and Mykel Steen had the other goals for the Wildcats.
Tanner Pugh replied with two goals, while Paul Ross and Graeme Hore added singles for the Raiders (3-8-0).
Trojans 8 Devils 6
In Melita, Bret Nahirniak and Landyn Cochrane paced Russell’s Trojans (9-1-0) with two goals and two assists apiece. Jory Dunn, Ashton Rittaler, Reid Boryskavich and Jim Choy also scored for Major Pratt.
Wes Meggison led the Devils (3-7-1) with a goal and four helpers. Reid Sambrook added a goal and two assists, while Will Brown and Jessy Kobs also scored for Melita/Waskada.
Colts 3 Broncos 1
In Boissevain, Nial Mills scored the first two goals for the Colts (8-1-2) and assisted on Derek Hainsworth’s tally.
Carter Cowlthorp opened the scoring for the Broncos (5-7-0), before the Colts bounced back with three unanswered goals.
Rage 7 Huskies 3
In Hamiota, Cole Lawrence had three goals and added an assist for the Rage (2-11-0), while teammate Ryley Weir potted two goals and set up three others. Jason Kozak and Jacob Heapy also scored for Rivers/Elton.
Braden Dereniwski, Theoren Hunter and Logan Clark replied for the Huskies (0-10), who got two assists from Riley Boles.
