Rebels acquire Bellerive from Giants

The Red Deer Rebels acquired forward Matt Bellerive from the Vancouver Giants for a third-round pick in the 2014 Western Hockey League bantam draft on Monday.

Bellerive was a 2009 second-round bantam pick of the Giants and scored 10 goals and added 10 assists in 90 regular-season games for Vancouver, scoring six goals and adding eight assists in 45 games in 2011-12. Bellerive, who will turn 18 in December, had left the team last week and asked to be traded.

“We feel he has lots of potential to break out yet,” Rebels head coach Jesse Wallin told the Red Deer Advocate.

Bellerive is expected to arrive in Red Deer today and be in the lineup on Friday night.
