The Hamiota Red Sox are into the South West Baseball League final.
Justin Knight drove in six runs as the Red Sox beat the Wawanesa Brewers 7-3 on Tuesday in Hamiota to sweep their best-of-five semifinal. Knight homered and hit two singles for the Sox, while teammate Chris Obach hit three singles and scored three runs.
Trevor Kozak, doubled, singled and drove in two runs for the Brewers, while Curtis Plett singled twice.
Winning pitcher Logan McGonigal and Plett, who took the loss, both tossed complete games.
The Red Sox will face either the Hartney Hoppers or the Boissevain Centennials, who are tied 1-1 in their semifinal series, heading into Game 3 tonight at 7 o’clock in Boissevain.
Mark Derlago of the Hoppers has been named the SWBL’s most valuable player.
A trio of Centennials were also honoured in the league’s year-end awards as Junior Brake was named top pitcher, Corey Billaney won the batting title and Ryan Albrecht was chosen as the Mark Miner Award winner as the most inspirational player. Brad Bowles of the Elkhorn Expos was the rookie of the year.
