Justin Knight and Tyler Reiner had three hits apiece as the Hamiota Red Sox opened the best-of-five South West Baseball League final with a 6-5 home win over the Boissevain Centennials on Tuesday.
Knight scored twice for the Red Sox, while Reiner drove in a run.
Jay Pringle singled and doubled for the Centennials, while teammate Corey Billaney hit a pair of singles.
Reliever Brady Smith earned the win despite allowing a run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Hamiota starter Kyle Kostesky allowed four runs — two earned — in 5 2/3 innings, while Logan McGonigal registered the final two outs for the save.
Losing pitcher Junior Brake was roughed up for 14 hits in 6 2/3 innings, allowing six runs, five of them earned.
Game 2 of the series will be played on Wednesday, Aug. 13 in Boissevain.
