Andrew Richards threw a complete game in which he scattered six hits and didn’t allow an earned run while striking out eight as the Minnedosa Mavericks beat the host Portage Padres 4-1 in a battle of the top two Santa Clara Baseball League teams on Sunday.
Mike Tarleton drove in one run and scored another, while John Lawrence was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Minnedosa (10-2-0). Derek Hamilton took the loss for Portage (11-2-1).
Meanwhile, in Austin, Brady Walker pitched a complete game and Justin Walker scored the winning run for the Plumas Pirates (3-8-1) in their 4-1 win over the host A’s (2-11-0). Mike Dreidger took the loss for Austin.
