Robertson top seed for seniors

Neepawa’s Kelly Robertson is the top seed heading into this week’s provincial senior men’s curling championship, which runs from Thursday through Monday in Killarney.

Robertson and his team of Souris’ Doug Armour, Dauphin’s Peter Prokopowich and Winnipeg’s Bob Scales are the two-time provincial champions. They won the Canadian senior men’s title two years ago and a silver medal at the worlds last year.

Brandon’s Brian Fowler is the third seed. Winnipeg’s Bob Sigurdson and East St. Paul’s Rob Atkins are seeded second and fourth, respectively, while St. Adolphe’s Murray Woodward is fifth.

The bonspiel also features Brandon’s Shawn Taylor, Dauphin’s Jim Todoruk and Pilot Mound’s Curtis McCannell.

Meanwhile, Brandon’s Lois Fowler enters the provincial senior women’s championship as the second seed.

The five-day competition begins today and runs through Sunday’s final in Souris.

Laurie Deprez, who beat Fowler in last year’s final, is the top dog, while Winnipeg’s Lori Pelissier is third. Killarney’s Deb Collyer and Brandon’s Joyce McDougall are the fourth and fifth seeds. Hamiota’s Sandra Cowling is also in the field.
