Rockets clip Cloverleafs

Sheldon Moore hit a two-run double in the bottom of sixth inning to give the Reston Rockets a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in their 6-5 Manitoba Senior Baseball League victory over the Brandon Cloverleafs Thursday night in Reston.

Eric Truscott earned the win on the mound after holding the Cloverleafs to four runs — one earned — on seven hits and two walks while striking out two. Zane Sawyer recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.

Max Poulin took the loss after giving up six runs — three earned — on 10 hits and three walks in eight innings of work. He struck out five batters.

Buddy Mayert went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI for Reston (12-7), while Rory Tycoles was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Matt Gunning hit a two-run home run for the Cloverleafs (10-7), while John McNeill went 2-for-5 and came around to score twice. Poulin finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The win brought the Rockets’ magic number to one to clinch home-field advantage in the semifinals. Reston is now two games up on Brandon and the Rockets have clinched the season series.
