Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Rockets, Cloverleafs sharelead atop MSBL standings

Rory Tycoles drove in Andrew Lochhead with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning as the defending Manitoba Senior Baseball League Champions came from behind to beat the Brandon Houstons Marlins 4-3 on Friday night in Reston.

The Rockets (2-0) trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh inning when Chris Young launched a two-run home run to tie the contest. Des Koop shut the door in the top of the eighth inning to pick up the win and Mitch Olson gave up one hit and struck out one in the ninth to pick up the save.

Tycoles finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Ryan Boguski went 2-for-4 and drove in all three Marlins runs.

Jeff Wiebe took the loss for Brandon (1-2). Wiebe gave up one run on one hit in one inning of work in relief of starter Paul Thompson.

In another MSBL game, the Brandon Cloverleafs beat the Oak River Dodgers 4-2.

At Oak River, Sean Dryden pitched seven scoreless innings to lead the Cloverleafs.

Dryden gave up five hits, struck out four batters and didn’t walk any. Dryden left the game with a 2-0 lead, but the win went to reliever Max Poulin, who allowed two runs on one hit and a walk in two innings.

(0-3) tied the game off of Poulin in the bottom of the eighth inning as both John Lawrence and Duncan Paddock scored on an error. Brandon replied with two more runs in the top of the ninth for the victory. One of those runs was driven in by Daniel Perron, who finished the game 2-for-5.<t$>

Ryan Shaw worked the first seven innings for the Dodgers, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk, with seven strikeouts. Reliever Rogelio Ortiz took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits and two walks, while striking out one.
