Rockets finish 2-2 at senior nationals

The Reston Rockets’ bid for a playoff spot at the national Senior AAA baseball championship came up just a little short in Newfoundland over the weekend.

The 2013 Manitoba Senior Baseball League champions finished third in their division in St. John’s with a 2-2 record after falling 5-4 in an extra inning to the Mississauga (Ont.) Twins on Saturday.

Drew Haight went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Reston, while Rory Tycoles had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Manitoba representatives. Paul Thompson threw the final 2 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Rockets, who entered the weekend in the hunt for a playoff spot after going 2-1 in their first two round-robin games.
