Royals advance to semifinals

The Tiger Hills Hockey League champion Deloraine Royals swept through the Hockey Manitoba Senior A provincial championship round robin and have secured a spot in the semifinals.

Brett Morrison netted a pair of markers as the Royals (2-0) scored seven unanswered goals on Sunday night in Killarney to beat the Altona Maroons 8-1 and secure top spot in their pool. Tanner Waldvogel, Nolan Jago, Mitch Olson, Ryan Adams, Jon Naturkach and Blaine Jarvis also scored for Deloraine.

Late Friday night in Rivers, Jarvis and Waldvogel both scored twice and set up another goal as the Royals doubled the North Central Hockey League champion Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks 8-4. Jason Swyripa also scored twice for Deloraine, while Jago and Ryan Marsh added singles.

Jordan Mitchell, Curtis Gardham, Travis Sheane and Jason Bowles replied for the C-Hawks, who gave up the game’s first five goals.

The C-Hawks will close out the round robin against the Maroons on Thursday in Winnipeg. The winner of that game advances to Friday’s semifinals.
